Notes for Judging: | The Situation: While in the fall of 2023 media attention wanes for the war in Ukraine, the German organization ArtHelps establishes a new Creative Hub – right in Kiev. A center for traumatized children and teenagers for creative workshops and art therapy. The task: A fundraising campaign that raises awareness for the situation of children and teenagers on-site and provides financial support for the work of ArtHelps. The idea: RESISTRUMENTS – Instruments built from war weapons. A violin built from a Russian warhead, a cello crafted from parts of a missile launcher, a guitar made from a canister once used to refuel Russian tanks. Built and played by Ukrainian children and teenagers during the first workshops in the new Creative Hub. The execution: What started as a workshop turned into a campaign. With Support Posters in the ArtHelps shop, teaser clips on social media, in a moving composition by the Austrian-Russian violinist Yury Revich, produced with the support of the Pop Academy, Germany and finally: presented in a music video. The results: The project brought new awareness for the situation of children in Ukraine. Within a few weeks, thousands of new followers and interactions on the Social-Web. Reports in PR and coverage in major German TV channels ARD and ZDF. Support came from singer Rea Garvey, popular German TV hosts like Dr. Eckard von Hirschhausen, politicians like the Mayor of Stuttgart, and brands like the Porsche AG. The workshop for the campaign is the first project realized at the new Creative Hub. The donations raised by the campaign will be used to build the center for traumatized children and teenagers in Kiev for the next years. So more workshops and educational trainings for art therapy will follow. In 2024 the campaign will be continued with Resistruments On Tour, choir workshops, and a documentation. For the young people the project was a respite from the relentless grip of war. Helping them discover the power of their creativity: the ability to transform something terrible and dangerous into something beautiful and peaceful. With the art therapy work of ArtHelps. As of today, +100,000€ in donations were raised by the campaign and will help to continue this work. |
