Notes for Judging: | To make Earth Hour more relevant to Filipinos, WWF put the spotlight on some of the most invisible or ignored subjects from the Philippines– its endangered animals. Through visuals and sounds, we showcased the different kinds of animals we can help save from extinction when we conserve energy. The Life Bulb posters features dimmed giant bulbs that reveal thriving local wildlife in the dark through visuals and sounds. The posters were illustrated by local artists. Each poster features an endangered animal in the Philippines. Informative copy gives more information about each and its plight. The filament on each bulb features the actual sound waves made by the animal. A QR code allows the viewer to listen to the actual sounds it makes in its natural habitat. These posters were printed on reflective ink so that they can be viewed even in the dark, as what happened when they were displayed during Earth Hour in the country’s capital city. By merging conventional on-ground displays with digital media platforms, the Life Bulb Posters drew more attention to Earth Hours' cause for nature. And with the help of over a hundred environmental advocates and organizations at the event, we contributed to the Philippines saving 62.69 megawatts of energy—33.29 MW coming from Luzon, 20.5 MW from Mindanao, and 8.9 MW from Visayas. To put this into perspective, this amount of energy could illuminate around 62,000 Filipino homes. |
