Notes for Judging: For decades, Hollywood has seen pervasive gender disparity exist, with males predominantly occupying key positions in film, both on stage and behind-the scenes. This inequity reflects historical power structures in America’s film industry, where male perspectives have long been prioritized in storytelling and decision-making roles, including hiring practices. Despite recent strides and industry-wide commitments towards achieving inclusivity, entrenched biases persist which continue to limit the opportunities for women to take on these roles. This unfortunate reality not only overlooks the myriad of talented females available to take on these roles, but it also works to dissuade future female talents from pursuing a career in them also. Raising awareness of the gender disparity and driving action to rebalance the hiring scales is just the tipping point of where change starts, but what a domino effect it can have for women in Hollywood today and in the future.
